Looking for a cool way to start the warm-weather season? Register for Macomb County’s Second Annual Sprint and Splash at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township on Saturday, June 15, 2013!
There are three options for participation in this event:
- 5K Fun Run/Walk
- Duathlon: 5K Run and 2 Mile Kayak
- Stand-Up Paddle Boarding Competition: 2 Mile Recreational Race or 6 Mile WPA Sanctioned Race
The purpose of this unique event is to promote and celebrate Lake St. Clair, which is truly the “heart” of the Great Lakes. It is one of the largest freshwater fisheries in North America and also one of the busiest recreational waterways in the mid-west. All those who participate in this event are supporting organizations that are working to improve the regional economy by increasing tourism to Lake St. Clair and its coastal communities while also striving to protect and restore Lake St. Clair, the ClintonRiver, and the surrounding natural areas.
The primary benefactor will be the Lake St. Clair Tourism Initiative, a non-profit association that has a goal of educating and connecting new and existing visitors about the many experiences offered by Lake St. Clair and the surrounding businesses and communities. For more information on the Lake St. Clair Tourism Initiative, visit www.TourLakeStClair.org.
Two other non-profit organizations will also benefit from this event – The Clinton River Watershed Council and Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy. Both organizations focus on conserving, sustaining, and protecting the region’s natural resources.
Sprint and Splash begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township. People of all ages and athletic abilities are encouraged to participate, including families. Participants will receive a tech shirt, a tote bag full of promotional items and 2 pavilion seat tickets to any concert at Freedom Hill! Please keep in mind, online registration closes at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12th!
