Aquapalooza highlights great summer lineup on the water for Lake St. Clair

With 32 miles of coast along Lake St. Clair, Macomb County is hosting some world class water events this summer. AquaPalooza 2013 is set for July 27 & 28 and is likely to be the largest on-the-water concert of the year anywhere in the Great Lakes!

AquaPalooza is celebrated during the last two weekends in July at dozens of locations around the U.S. and internationally. Events around the nation include raft-ups, weekend cruises, beach barbecues, music performances, ice cream socials and more. All locations welcome power boaters, sailors, jet skiers, kayakers, canoeists and everyone else who wants to be there. Any boat. Any brand.

In 2013, the concert stage will be in the water on a platform!

Here in Macomb, the Lake St. Clair AquaPalooza began several years ago as a regional Sea Ray owner rendezvous. Today the event has grown far beyond this. It is sponsored by Colony Marine, the local Sea Ray dealer. UAW Chrysler is the title sponsor and BelleMaer Harbor and MacRay Harbor are the site sponsors. Hundreds of boats and thousands of boaters are expected to attend by water.

Aquapalooza was a big hit on Lake St. Clair in 2012

This year, the event will feature eight bands and a DJ (see schedule below for details) who will perform on a stage erected on a barge in front of Belle Maer. This will make the stage and band more fan-friendly, and viewers can get close to the stage in a roped off area. This is a free concert to celebrate Lake St. Clair and Michigan boaters. This event compliments the state’s Pure Michigan campaign, the Make Macomb Your Home campaign and the Lake St. Clair Tourism Initiative nonprofit organization.

Putting on an event of this magnitude requires the partnership of various federal, state and local agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Michigan DNR and DEQ, the Macomb County Executive’s Office, the Macomb County Marine Division and the Harrison Township Fire Department. In Macomb, we’re proud to partner with these great groups to be able to put on such a fun event.
