Local resident one of many to participate in Sprint and Splash

Recently I had the distinct honor of chatting with Tristan Ferrara, an 11-year-old St. Clair Shores resident over the phone. Ferrara is an avid paddleboarder that is ecstatic about participating in Macomb County’s annual Sprint and Splash Festival for the first time this year. It was refreshing to talk to someone so young that is already enjoying the amazing water opportunities available in Macomb County.

Ferrara attributes his love of the water to his dad, who first got him hooked on paddleboarding.

“My dad is really into boards I tried out paddleboarding and I just fell in love with it,” he said.

Ferrara is so passionate about paddleboarding that he is planning on starting a club with his friends this summer where they will continue to learn how to get better at the sport. Moreover, Ferrara has a blog where he writes about his water adventures. Everything from his paddleboarding experiences, to equipment reviews, to information on how he trains in the offseason, is available on his blog. To read it, visit http://kidsupracer.wordpress.com/.

“It’s fun to write on there, I can express myself,” he said.

Ferrara said he has been looking forward to participating in Sprint and Splash, which is being held this Saturday, June 7 at Lake St. Clair Metropark. His parents have decided that he is now skilled enough to participate in the 2-mile stand up paddleboarding race.

“I’m just looking forward to having fun on the water and everything and just enjoying myself,” he said.
