Winter is finally over, and a few of Macomb County’s finest waterfront establishments are coming out of hibernation! Every year, when the temperatures begin to drop, some restaurants along the lake close for the season. Thankfully, come April, they reopen with full gusto! Mike’s on the Water and Brownie’s on the Lake are two restaurants in St. Clair Shores that have recently reopened their doors! Both of these establishments are accessible by boat or car and have nautical-themed décor and fare.
Last year, my husband and I made a trip to Mike’s by boat. This is the ultimate summer experience, as you can easily dock your boat and walk right up to the outdoor covered deck, which has plenty of seating and Jimmy Buffet-style décor. It is a fabulous spot to sip a cold drink, eat a sandwich and enjoy the lake.
Mike’s on the Water opened in the spring of 2011 and is owned by longtime St. Clair Shores resident Mike LeFevre. LeFevre’s family has been running restaurants for generations. His family operated the former Lido’s on the Lake, and Mike himself was an owner of Jack’s Waterfront Restaurant from 1994 until 2003.
Mike’s on the Water features dark-stained floors with booths and high-tops. The walls are covered with all things nautical. Mike’s on the Water is also heavily involved in the local community, and any customer who donates $5 to a local charity will receive a mini life preserver ring with their name on it, which gets mounted on the restaurant wall. The restaurant seats 150 inside and 75 on the outside deck. The menu features burgers, sandwiches, bbq ribs, fish, salads, a variety of appetizers and plenty of beer, wine and spirits.
Another great waterfront establishment is Brownie’s on the Lake (formerly Jack’s Waterfront Restaurant). During the summer, I frequently visit Brownie’s on the Lake, and it is definitely a great place to grab an afternoon lunch or celebrate a night out on the town with friends. Brownie’s features a slightly more upscale menu but still offers the same ambiance and feel of a beachfront bar. Brownie’s on the Lake has both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as two indoor bars and a tiki bar outside. Every weekend night, the restaurant features live entertainment, typically with a band outside and a DJ within.
These are just two of the many great waterfront establishments in Macomb County! Others include: Tin Fish, Fishbone’s, Gino’s Surf, Terry’s Terrace, MacRay Harbor Grill Bistro, Little Camille’s By the Bay and Fin’s Eatery and Spirits.
So this summer, when you’re looking for a place to have a meal or a fun night out, consider taking a trip to one of our Lake St. Clair communities.
