It is that time of year again when the Miller’s Big Red farm is as busy as a bee’s hive. You can almost taste the donuts being made from scratch while walking toward the market. The smell of fresh pies coming out of the oven will make your mouth water like Pavlov’s dogs. The apple cider is flying off the shelf at the new marketplace along with many other farm fresh goods. Many adults visiting the farm remember back to when their parents took them to Miller’s Big Red, and now they are taking their kids and grandkids to this beautiful farm in Washington Township.
Miller’s Big Red farm is the kind of place you can bring the entire family, and there is something for everyone to enjoy. Go for a hayride through the farm, and enjoy being out in the country. The kids will love the petting farm, tractor slide, bounce house, corn maze and straw mountain. If you want to take it a little slower, have a relaxing picnic and try a few healthy farm fresh products (or, if you are like me, delight in a dozen donuts washed down by a half gallon of cider). On the weekends, you can get a real treat when they bring out the pit smokehouse and make some pulled pork sandwiches and some tasty cider-marinated chicken cooked over apple wood.
If you think Miller’s Big Red only has cider, then you would be wrong. Yes, they do have all-natural cider made without preservatives and pasteurized for your safety. But they also have cinnamon and sugar donuts, powdered sugar donuts and donuts covered in icing along with sprinkles or nuts year-around. They even make a donut where they take a freshly picked apple and some caramel and then add sprinkles, nuts, chocolate or butterscotch and drizzle it all over a donut. Yes, that is for real, you are not dreaming and drooling on your pillow.
Miller’s Big Red farm also carries caramel apples picked fresh right from the farm. Plus, they make over a dozen different 10-inch deep dish pies for you to enjoy. If you are looking for specialty breads, no need to drive over to grandma’s, they have over a dozen kinds of specialty breads to enjoy as well. Give your poor grandma a break and bring her one of these delicious treats for goodness sake. For those picky eaters in the family, they also have a full concession stand where you can get a hot dog, pretzel, Italian sausage, nachos, chili fries, etc. I suggest strongly to get yourself an apple cider slushy to wash down all of that delicious food.
They make good use of the hundreds of acres of farm land – growing fruits, vegetables and herbs – many of which are used in the products they make every day. If you are looking for fall goodies, then look no further. Miller’s Big Red farm has fall mums, bales of hay, dry bundles of corn stalks and pumpkins, while supplies last.
If you are thinking about having a birthday party or another type of event, having one at Miller’s Big Red would only be a million times better than having it at your house. The professional staff will make sure the event goes off without a hitch.
The owners of Miller’s Big Red have big plans for the future of the farm. But for now, hurry and visit Miller’s Big Red while there is plenty of beautiful fall left to enjoy. For more information on Miller’s Big Red, visit http://millersbigred.com/.
