At first you might miss this hidden gem, but if you keep your eyes peeled, you’ll notice the old red ’57 International parked out front. Once your curiosity is piqued, you might look further, down toward the beautiful knot gardens, a pergola you’ll want to have your morning coffee in, and all the beautifully crafted planters, wow, the planters!
Inside the shop, you’ll be met by the wonderful smells of handcrafted soaps and candles and an eclectic mix of home and garden decor. The walls are lined with handcrafted art, made from industrial reclaim, upcycled and repurposed objects, and found items.
The owner’s design center is tucked into a quiet corner where Ryan Morici works on the latest projects for his landscape design and construction company. On site renderings are completed on the vintage drafting table by the in-house horticulture and design specialist.
The Heritage Oaks property includes the Shoppe (in an old home dating back to the mid-1800s), a courtyard, a backyard path with outdoor garden pieces, and The Barn. But don’t think horses and hay. Think reclaimed wood and corrugated steel. Step inside and you’ll know why you’ll want to tell somebody, anybody, everybody, about this place! The Barn is busting at the seams with locally crafted goods by painters, potters, photographers, screen printers, and upcyclers. If that’s not enough, you will see pieces of Detroit history throughout its 500 plus square feet, including a beam that once held up the water tower at the Packard Plant and hub caps spanning the rich automotive history of the Motor City.
Perhaps you’re the type that needs to be entertained or educated. If so, you’ll want to consider coming out for one of the workshops or possibly booking your own private party in The Barn! If you’re still at your computer reading this and not already in the store, you can sign up for upcoming events and workshops at HeritageOaksDesign.com.
