Macomb County Health Department to get their “Mo” on

Movember GroupFor the month of November, men in the Macomb County Health Department will be growing mustaches that will turn them into walking, talking billboards for men’s health. They have invited other county departments to join in to raise awareness, spark conversation and garner funds for men’s health programs, like promoting awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity. Getting involved in Movember is a fantastic way to unite a workplace, have some fun, and raise awareness and funds for men’s health.

The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier and longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising $650 million.

To participate, go to and sign up. Start clean shaven on Nov. 1, and grow and groom your moustache for the 30 days of Movember. You can assemble a team or start your own funding page, then raise funds and awareness for men’s health.

Women don’t have to have a mustache to care about men’s health. They can support their Mo Bros by pledging any dollar amount. Mo Sistas can even sign up, start a team, talk about the importance of men’s health and fundraise. They do everything Mo Bros do, they just don’t grow a moustache! Mo Sistas are champions of Movember, rallying the men in their lives to join in. Women – mothers, daughters, wives, girlfriends, or pals – tend to be the gateway to health in a man’s life. Studies have shown that men are less likely to talk about their health, let alone take action. Women play an important role in helping men break down the barriers that surround those simple health conversations and can be the catalyst for men living happier, healthier, longer lives.

Donations raised during Movember will be donated to the Livestrong Foundation and Prostate Cancer Foundation. Four million moustaches have been grown worldwide.

Unite your friends, colleagues and community to rock the moustache together! I know I am!

Bill Ridella is the director of the Macomb County Health Department.
