For more than 75 years, we have been helping families. We successfully overcame the threat of polio, and one day, every family will know the joy of a healthy baby.
The March of Dimes helps moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. And if something goes wrong, we offer information and comfort to families. We research the problems that threaten our babies and work on preventing them.
Engaging with the community in Macomb County is key to our organization’s success. Every year, the March of Dimes and Macomb County employees partner together for the March for Babies event. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, April 24 at Lake St. Clair Metropark.
As the March of Dimes signature event fundraiser, March for Babies supports the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies. More than 3 million people participate as walkers, volunteers and sponsors in more than 692 communities nationwide.
Each year, individual walkers along with family, corporate and school teams enjoy walking with a shared purpose to support the March of Dimes. In 2015, more than 1,000 walkers raised over $220,000 in the Macomb County March for Babies. Across Metro Detroit, over 8,000 people walked at three March for Babies events and raised more than $1.3 million. Please come out and join us on that day by simply registering at March for Babies.
Macomb County employees have partnered with the March of Dimes in this event since 2003, raising more than $35,000. We certainly cannot complete our mission without the generous support of the Macomb County employees, and we are honored to have Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham be our Honorary Chairs for the 2016 Macomb County March for Babies event.
We are set to make 2016 a very memorable year and hope that we can raise more awareness within the county. We have set a goal of $233,000 for the Macomb walk.
In Macomb County, we have scheduled two dates for the March for Babies kickoff events. The first is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 in the Macomb County Administration Building Lobby. The second is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 in the Macomb Community Action Training and Conference Center (previously the MCCSA Senior Auditorium). Join us on one of those days to pick up your team captain kits along with finding out more information about the March of Dimes and what we are accomplishing within Macomb County. Pizza and beverages will be provided.
