With 32 miles of Lake St. Clair coastline and the Clinton River running through it, Macomb County boasts numerous waterfront parks, paddle parks, boat launches, marinas and water-related businesses. You may not have thought of Macomb County as a tourist destination, but you can find all of your favorite summer activities here!
You don’t need to vacation in a coastal state to land a big catch. Charter a fishing boat, and let experienced captains with Fish Headz Sport Fishing Charters and Mr. Muskie Charters guide you to bass, muskie, perch, sturgeon and walleye in Lake St. Clair. It is such a popular fishing destination that many competitions take place here, such as the Bassmaster Elite tournament series which was held on the lake twice in recent years. Bass fishing pro Kevin VanDam referred to Lake St. Clair in a blog post as “the most dynamic and fertile lake in the country.”
Looking to cruise around the lake in style? Check out the Infinity and Ovation Yacht Charters’ Summer Cruise Series. Depart from Jefferson Beach Marina in St. Clair Shores, and journey down the Detroit River. Tickets include a strolling dinner, premium bar and live entertainment.
Take in the scenery at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township on a guided bicycle tour with Pedego Junction. In three and a half hours, you can travel down bike paths, ride along the boardwalk and stop at the nature center. If that sounds like too much work, don’t worry, Pedego Junction bicycles are electric – giving you the option to pedal or coast as needed. If you choose to rent an electric bike to go off on your own excursion, Sundog Marina, River Rat Restaurant and downtown Mount Clemens are just some of the attractions within biking distance.
We’ve all seen those standup paddleboarders effortlessly gliding across the water. Want to get in on the fun? St. Clair Shores-based Great Lakes Surf Shop offers hassle-free lessons on Thursday evenings at Lake St. Clair Metropark. They provide the boards, equipment and experienced instructors – you simply need to register online and show up ready to learn.
Looking for a more traditional way to explore the water? Simple Adventures offers kayak and Jet Ski rentals at several locations including Walter and Mary Burke Park in New Baltimore, Lake St. Clair Metropark and 9 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores. Rental includes delivery and pickup, life jacket, paddle and safety kit. You can even book a kayak and be on the river in downtown Mount Clemens for the fireworks this Friday.
