Looking for an entertaining way to escape the heat? Visit the Anton Art Center in Mount Clemens for the 2016 Members’ Exhibition, which opens July 15 and continues through Aug. 26. The show features over 80 works of art in a variety of media by Anton Art Center members.
From three-dimensional wall hangings to ceramics, from metal sculpture to photography, from oils to watercolors, the show includes art for every taste. All are original pieces, completed within the last two years and not previously displayed at the Art Center. All artwork in the Members’ Exhibition is displayed in the main galleries on the first floor of the Art Center.
Attendees to the exhibit throughout its run are encouraged to vote for the People’s Choice Award winner. Votes must be submitted in person by official ballot by 5 p.m. on Aug. 26. The winning artist will receive two tickets to the 25th Annual ArtParty fundraiser on Sept. 15.
In addition to this wide ranging exhibition, visitors will be impressed by a special historical display focused on Pewabic Pottery in the adjoining Boll History Gallery. Pewabic is a name well known nationally, especially in the Detroit area. The pottery became renowned for unique iridescent glazes that garnered awards for its co-founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton. Today the studio and school on East Jefferson is a National Historic Landmark.
The public and Art Center membership are invited to an opening reception for the exhibition and Pewabic display from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 16.
During your visit, be sure to check out the Student & Faculty Exhibition in the Petitpren Community Gallery on the second floor. This showcases artwork in various media of Anton Art Center youth and adult students and the instructors of the 2015-16 art educational program. This show continues through Aug. 31.
