1 – The 144th Annual Armada Fair
For nearly a century and a half, Armada has been home to a festival packed with activities and entertainment for people of all ages. The Armada Fair, now a week-long event, running from Aug. 15 to Aug. 21, will mark its 144th year in the northern Macomb County community this month. This year’s fair will include a performance by country artist Granger Smith, as well as 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) livestock sales, a rodeo, figure 8 race, bump and run and tractor pull.

The fairgrounds, located on Fair Street and open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., will feature the midway, main arena, carnival office and barns.

Admission into the fairgrounds is $8 for adults ages 13 and older and $2 for kids ages 9 to 12. Ages 8 and younger get in free. Advance ticket sales offer seven adult tickets for $42 through 5 p.m. Aug. 14. Parking costs $5, or $25 for a weekly pass; entrances are located on Main Street and Armada Center Road.

Big Rock Amusements carnival opens at 3 p.m. the first day of the fair and noon each day after. Armbands cost $25 for a day pass. A “mega pass” for $60 grants carnival access all week until Friday. Armbands on the final day of the fair will cost $20. Individual tickets are also available for purchase.

2 – Brews & Schmooze Business Card Exchange
Brews & Schmooze: A Business Card Exchange is being hosted by the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry and will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Macomb Township. The event will feature a celebration of Macomb County microbreweries and includes one drink ticket (beer or wine), appetizers, the opportunity to network with approximately 200 professionals in Macomb County, putting green access (proper shoes required) and a meet and greet with sponsors and microbreweries!


3 – Kuhnhenn XV
Join Kuhnhenn Brewing Co. in celebrating 15 years of brewing at Beers with Distinct Personalities™ on Saturday, Aug. 20 at their Warren Taproom! This is a ticketed, once-in-a-lifetime tasting experience; likened as a mini-beer festival! Tickets are $40 and includes 12, 2 ounce tastings and a $5 food voucher which is good toward a spread of delicious freshly-made food from their culinary team at the Clinton Township location (served on site in Warren). Food trucks will also be on site for purchase. Additionally, with your ticket, you will receive a commemorative min-Belgian tasting glass, a swag bag and live music! Kuhnhenn is featuring over 40 drafts of rare and limited Kuhnhenn beers, including vintage cellared drafts that they’ve been hanging onto for a long time!


4 – Live Animal Wildlife Safari in Harrison Township
The zoo comes to the Harrison Township Public Library at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20. Nelson’s Wildlife Safari will present a number of live exotic animals including a South American toucan, a Siberian lynx, an American red fox and many more. Please note featured animals are subject to change due to weather and the health of the animals. This is an all-ages event, but children must be accompanied by a caregiver. This class is free, but registration is required. 5 – 4th Annual Michigan POG Bike Ride
Mark your calendar for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21 to join Pedego Junction for their 4th Annual Michigan POG Bike Ride. The event is open to everyone who rides a unicycle, bicycle or tricycle and admission is free! All participants will meet at Pedego Junction, USA Bike Shop, 31785 South River Road in Harrison Township and from there will slow-roll approximately 12 miles. Participants of the bike ride will receive complimentary food, beverages and music after their ride. Participants are also welcome to bring a dish to pass for the after-ride celebration.
