The Great Donut Debate: Who won?

Donuts.JPGThis fall, it is time to put a major topic to vote. Once again, a divisive populous finds itself choosing between options that define the fabric of our democracy. I am, of course, speaking of choosing the best donuts from our local orchards.

Macomb County is home to several popular orchards that buzz with activity for all ages. At this time of the year, they all go #BeyondTheBushel to produce both delicious treats and great times. One of the perks of visiting Macomb County’s orchards is the opportunity to sample their fine donuts.

When planning a donut trip, these are some of our favorite stops: Westview Orchards, Verellen Orchards, Blake Farms and Miller’s Big Red.

First up: Westview Orchards

Cherry. Apple. Pumpkin. Brown Sugar. Westview Orchards flavors run the gamut, seeking to please traditionalists and contemporaries alike. Soft and deliciously moist, these donuts are what donut lovers dream of.

Second up: Verellen Orchards

Featuring a variety of glazes that would please any palate, these donuts are perfectly sculpted works of art. Catching these fresh off the donut assembly line is an experience every donut chaser should hope to accomplish. Be adventurous!

Third up: Blake Farms

A classic donut done right. Powdered sugar, plain, or any other way these are crowd pleasers and absolutely pair great with just about any hard or soft cider on site. To be sure, I tried a few times.

Fourth up: Miller’s Big Red

Taste, smell, sight. Every sense is stimulated in the right way with these treats. Miller’s understands what makes a donut great. Perfect for any time of day! They even offer fresh produce on site to cure any donut binge guilt trips. A must try!

Rarely in life does a tie seem so satisfying. The truth is you can grab a donut from any of these locations and come out a winner. While you’re out grabbing a donut, check out a haunted hayride, pick up some pumpkins, enjoy a hard cider or just take in the view on a pure Michigan fall day.
